Emily Little places second in All Around on Mexican return

Australia’s Women’s Artistic Gymnast Emily Little has excelled upon her return to international competition, placing second in the All Around competition at the Mexican Gymnastics Open.

In her first international competition since the London 2012 Olympic Games, WAIS gymnast Little performed a double twisting Yurchenko on Vault and has returned in form close to the level she competed at in London before her retirement.

The competition was held in Acapulco, Guerrero from 4 to 6 December 2014 and after facing some challenges in the lead up to her return competition, Little’s professionalism shone through and she finished second on Vault, and second in the All Around competition with a score of 53.55.

Little hit both her Vault and Bars routines, and led the All Around competition at the end of day one. Her double twisting Yurchenko Vault was very powerful and clean throughout and led Little to a score of 14.65 to take second, a mere 0.05 behind leader Oksana Chusovitina from Russia. Little’s form continued on Bars, scoring 12.95 and sticking her double layout dismount.

On day two Little completed a very clean routine on Beam, finishing with a score of 12.6 and wowed the audience on Floor with a tucked full-in, double tuck, 1.5 through to double twist and double pike dismount, scoring 13.35. This routine put Little into first place in the All Around competition, with Polish Marta Pihan-Kulesza pipping her at the post with her Beam performance.

Gymnastics Australia congratulates Emily on a wonderful performance and welcomes her back.
