Team’s headed for the Future!

Waverley Gymnastics Club and Glen Iris Rhythmic Gymnastics Club are just a couple of clubs in Australia heading in the right direction with their Team Future athletes and programs.

Waverley Gymnastics Club has been involved with the Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) Team Future program since its inception over seven years ago.

The Team Future coaching team; Jessica Mason, Jeb Silsbury and Nadiya Koryakina, as seen in the photograph proudly showing off their Team Future status, assist their athletes in producing quality skills, ensuring great results from a significant amount of athletes who attend the WAG Team Future Camps.

One of the key tools of the Team Future program is the Individual Development Element Assessment List (IDEAL skills) which aims to expose gymnasts to a comprehensive array of skills at an early age and is a prerequisite for gymnasts to attend the Team Future Camps. The coaches at Waverley attest that “the IDEAL skills provide sound building blocks for the athletes long term future plans.”

Team Future is the Gymnastics Australia branding of our high performance development program across all Olympic Gymsports, and as well as WAG, includes; Men’s Artistic Gymnastics (MAG), Rhythmic Gymnastics (RG) and Trampoline Gymnastics (TRP).

Glen Iris Rhythmic Gymnastics coaches; Tatiana Loukianenko, involved with RG for over forty years, and Durratun Nashihin Rosli, a Commonwealth Games Silver medalist for Malaysia, have been involved with RG's Team Future since its launch in 2015. Their athletes train out of a set up and pack down facility and they show potential to be an esteemed Team Future club.

Loukianenko, Glen Iris's Managing Director and Head Coach, reveals that “Team Future camps are beneficial; having highly regarded coaches and judges brought in from overseas is advantageous to the coaches and athletes”.

Team Future unites 9 to 15 year old gymnasts from around the country who are successfully competing at an appropriate level and whose programs are embracing the IDEAL Skills Assessment. Team Future activities encompass a holistic development program for the young gymnast and Loukianenko says “it is a good opportunity for the girls to compare their ability with others across Australia, and to understand the science behind their movements and be able to apply their learning back home.”

Gymnastics Australia congratulates all 2015 Team Future clubs and hope they display their certificate proudly.
