Nikola Chung

Nikki started Gymnastics in Perth, Western Australia. After going through the development program relatively unnoticed, she really stood out was on the Uneven Bars, taking the title in 2008 and 2009 in two different levels; IDP 8 and IDP 10.

Albeit missing the 2011 Nationals, Nikki went on to the World Championships Team Selection Camp in Canberra, where she impressed, and was named as the travelling reserve for the Worlds Team that headed to Tokyo and came 7th.

Inspired from this incredible opportunity in 2011, Nikki worked hard and looked to have a chance to make the London 2012 Olympic Team, after solid performances a the DTB Team Cup and Gymnix, and debuting her double twisting yurchenko at National Team Camps early in 2012. She carried her form through to the 2012 Australian Championships/Olympic Trials, however during podium training she took a bad landing on vault and tore her ACL in her knee, as well as her deltoid tendon in her ankle.

After recovering from her ACL surgery, Nikki returned to the sport she loves, and earned a scholarship at the University of Maryland, where she was a student-athlete for 2 years (2013 and 2014.) She has since returned to Perth and is finishing her medicine studies.
