Dr Clare Hanlon

        


Appointed Director

Dr Clare Hanlon was appointed to the Gymnastic Australia Board in 2015 and is Chair of the Governance Committee and Chair of the Nominations Committee.

Clare is an Associate Professor, Institute Sport, Exercise and Active Living, Victoria University (VU). She has over 25 years practical and research experience in sport and physical activity. Growing up on a farm encouraged Clare to become a regional-based primary school teacher and Physical Education Coordinator. Clare returned to university to complete a Master of Applied Science and then worked with the State Government and Australian Sport Commission as a Regional Aussie Sport Coordinator. She returned to study, completed a PhD and became a teacher, industry adviser and researcher in sport management. A large proportion of her research concentrates on collaborating with organisations to facilitate greater participation in sport and physical activity in particular for women.

Clare facilitates strategic workshops for state and national sport organisations, leads or is a team member for applied research and research consultancy projects and has collaborated with organisations such as:

As an active member of the sporting community Clare is currently Vice-President of the Sport Management Association of Australia and New Zealand, and delegated board member of the World Association of Sport Management. Clare was Deputy Chair, Gymnastics Victoria and during this time was actively involved in the strategic planning and governance at Board level. She has been on numerous advisory panels e.g., Victorian Minister for Sport, Women in Sport and Recreation Advisory Group, the University of Hong Kong, and a range of international, national and state sporting organisations and local government councils.
