About High Performance

High Performance gymnastics refers to the section of the sport which is devoted to the pursuit of excellence and achievement of medals at the highest international level. Pinnacle events for Australia include the Olympic Games, World Championships and the Commonwealth Games.

Gymnastics Australia works in partnership with the Australian Institute of Sport, State Institutes and Academies of Sport, State Associations and High Performance gymnastics programs to create a system capable of delivering international sporting success.

Resources in the High Performance area are concentrated on the development of Men’s Artistic, Women’s Artistic, Rhythmic and Trampoline Gymnastics, as these are the four gymsports which offer a pathway to the Olympic Games. Gymnastics Australia also supports National Squads and National Teams in Aerobic and Acrobatic Gymnastics.

Talented young individuals who have been identified as having the potential to perform at international level are directed towards High Performance programs which have the capability to provide the specialised training, resources and support required.

Gymnastics Australia’s High Performance staff lead this area with activities including:

  • System structure, development and operation

  • National competitions

  • National training camps

  • National team tours

  • Coach and judge education

Success is only possible by adopting a rigorous approach, totally directed towards the achievement of excellence.

By the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics Games, Gymnastics Australia aspires for its athletes in three of the four Olympic Gymsports - Men’s Artistic, Women’s Artistic and Trampoline Gymnastics - to be podium performers; contenders for winning Olympic and World Championship medals.
